On Friday, October 30, 2015 an international outreach conference on Earth Observation data utilization to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector, will take place for the first time in our country, at 9:30, at Noesis, Thessaloniki Science Center and Technology Museum.
The purpose of the conference is to highlight the role of Earth Observation in agriculture. In particular, the contribution of reliable data and new services created from Earth Observation to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector will be discussed, while through roundtable discussions, the value of new modern tools including Spaceborne (Satellites), Airborne (High Altitude Pseudosatellites-HAPs), and Ground platforms (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles -UAVs & Telemetric Sensors) as a system of Internet of Things, will be analysed and decoded related to their potential in boosting the Agri-Sector and providing new services.
Finally, the results and experience gained from the project AGRO_LESS will be discussed in connection with the viability and future prospects of the practices of Reduced Input Agriculture, not only in Greece and Bulgaria, but throughout the region.
The agenda and the international nature of the conference make it of utmost importance. Sharing their own relevant experience, high-ranking experts from Greece and abroad will take part, including the Director General of the Intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations (GEO) of the United Nations, Ms. Barbara Ryan, and distinguished scientists representing national and international bodies and organizations, as well as representatives of project partners both from Greece and Bulgaria.
The project partners hope that this conference will open new horizons and will be the beginning of broader intersectoral networking in Greece and abroad, on utilising new technologies for strengthening the competitiveness of the agricultural sector.
